“Celebrating five decades of British cool,” the inaugural Vintage at Goodwood festival a few hours outside of London was a feat of cross-generational joy. The rain poured, the sun shone gloriously and the Tanqueray TEN ran in abundance. With more retro market stalls than Camden and Portobello combined, wares were obviously aplenty. But the real joys were the central promenade – a perfect faux road with film set-syle clad mock-buildings for the likes of Fortnum & Mason, the Tanqueray TEN cocktail bar, Body Shop, Oxfam, et al. – and the wealth of music and club-ness on offer. There were a few hiccups certainly… But next year should be a must-see on any even vaguely-retrotastic calendar.
Things we learned from this year’s Goodwood:
1. Your grandma can look cooler than you;
2. RAF pilots can seriously move it to ’80s rave (who knew?);
3. Primark + Times Style = surprisingly unoffensive.
