Grok: En Avant

Latex gloves, £50 notes, petri dishes, eyeballs, cognac and blood-stained transvestite nurses… Well, it just has to be either a) a new Rocky Horror re-hash, b) the latest craze in ‘concept bar’ or c) good ol’ art. And thankfully this time it’s the latter.

Packing out The Future Gallery (the old Photographers’ Gallery at the Leicester Square edge of Covent Garden), the Grok Institute are resolutely on form this week with a trio of fabulous if vaguely disturbing works (in addition to the above See Me installation there’s also a sound-piece by the ever-charming Oscar Carlson and a monolithic slab of cine-art). Over the next couple of days the space is also hosting a pair of digital-as-creative talks, including one in association with the kids at Protein (images now included – and damn was that a fascinating forum: thoroughly inspiring).

For the launch, it was everything you’d expect. It’s Grok – so imaginative, slightly crazy, thunderously digital/new-media. It was also Courvoisier – so great Sidecars and a curious little punch. And of course it’s just round the corner from Pacifico – so cracking quesadillas and cold beers (Pacifico, naturally) to round the whole thing off.
